Michael's Message 11/13/2014

Myself and other volunteers met at Jenn's Java last night to work on the next steps for the rummage sale. Here is what we discussed:

We will need as many of you as possible for setting up. We will begin setting up on Weds December 3rd at 6:30pm and all day Thursday December 4th at 8:30am. We need those of you willing to help on Friday December 5th between 8am-5pm and Saturday December 6th from 8am-3pm. We will also need people willing to help with the clean up at 3pm the last day of the sale. Please let me know if you can help out on any of those days. We will plan a lunch or have lite snacks for those who participate. There will be coffee and hot chocolate available as well

 Rummage sale items

We will be meeting at The Haven from 9am-12pm this Saturday (11/15/14). We will be moving sale items from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor of The Haven, organize the items, and price them. Please let me know if you can help out on Saturday. Snacks or lunch will be served

 Item transport

We are loading everything up on Sunday November 30th starting at 10am to take to the Church. We could use your help during that time. The more people, the quicker we can get items loaded. The guests from The Haven will be helping as well.

Tickets will sold on the days of the Rummage/Bake sale. They will be $1.50 per ticket or 5 for $5.00. When a person wins they will be called (by phone or email) to come and collect their prize from The Haven. There will be a system in place for this. Please let me know if you have any questions.

 God Bless,

Our Associate Directors Update on our 6 Month Anniversary

Hello All!
That's right! We have been open for 6 months! Over the 6 month period The Haven has served 37 men. 16 of those guests have successfully transitioned in the Manitowoc Community. We have recorded over 800 overnight stays and 720 Case Management hours. 5 of those 16 guests are in our aftercare program. They have jobs and adequate housing. I am proud of the men that we were able to help achieve self-sufficiency! All of this would not be possible without our community support and especially our volunteers! Thank you!
The Haven will be having its 2nd Annual Rummage/Bake sale on December 4th, 5th, and 6th. On December 4th will have a pre-sale from 6p-8p. On December 5th and 6th we will have The Rummage/Bake sale all day from 8a-4p. There will be a Raffle. We are looking for All items(especially Christmas items) for the sale including Raffle items. The Bake sale will only include Cookies and bars. Donated baked goods will be appreciated. We need volunteers to help set up, work, donate and clean up during both sales. There will be complimentary coffee and hot chocolate, too  The Haven will need fliers made so that we can get the word to community members. Is there anyone willing to make fliers for us? Please let me know. Thank you for all you do! I look forward to our continued partnership in helping those in need in our community!
God Bless,

September 5, 2014 update

We are quickly coming up on the fall and winter season. The Haven has been open almost 6 months already. So I thought I would share and update you on how we have done so far.

From the time we opened on 4/15/14 - 8/27/14 we have served 26 men,
10 of those men successfully transitioned (meaning they found a job, saved money, and found adequate housing)16 of those men voluntarily left without completing the program or was asked to exit due to zero tolerance violation/repeated violations of the policies and procedures of The Haven. I am pleased with these numbers. However The Haven wants to strive to have more and more successful transitions!  This all would not have been possible without your help. From the Monetary, Clothing, and Food donations received over time, we are able to help save lives! That is what this program is all about and you made it happen! Thank you!

We still have work to do. As the colder months approach us there will be more men seeking shelter. So we are looking for donations for winter boots and coats. Our meal calendar for September looks good for this weekend. The rest of the calendar is empty so please sign up to cook a meal soon. We just got a big delivery of meat. Everything from whole chickens to beef briskets. If you would like to sign up, here is the link to the online calendar  Also, if you attended the volunteer training back in May and July, don't hesitate to sign up during the week/weekends to help Shelter Staff out for a couple of hours. Gary, Kathy, and Mike thanks for volunteering during evening shifts.  I am having an organizing day on September 27th from 10am-1pm here at The Haven's donation storage. If 4-6 come to help it will not take long. We are just looking to fold and hang up clothes while putting clothes in order from sm-xxl. Please email me if you can make it. Food will be served. If you have any questions please let me know. Please take a look at our wish list attached below.   Thank you for your enduring and continued generous support of the Haven of Manitowoc County!

Kind Regards,

Michael Etheridge
