2015 is upon us!

Friends,
It has been a fantastic 8 months for The Haven. The Haven has been able to address the plight of homeless men in our county.  When I speak to community members, especially those who’ve lived here for many years, I have been told time and time again that The Haven was needed 20 years ago. Now, through the vision of our board president Mark LeGreve, a fantastic board of directors, administrator, volunteers, and staff we have been able to serve 46 men, provide 1,654 overnight stays, and help 21 men transition successfully. Out of those 21 that have transitioned successfully, only 3 have re-entered homelessness.  2 out of those 3 were able to bounce back and secure employment along with other services provided from community partners.
The Haven had its Strategic Planning meeting back in November. We are looking for more growth in the following areas: fundraising, volunteerism, donations, evidence based practices, and community collaboration.  As you can see, there is a lot of work to be done! The Haven is not a stand-alone organization. We need everyone! Every volunteer, donor, and community partner to continue the fight against homelessness!  Our goal is to ensure the men in our community not only have a place to go, but are taught skills they need to secure employment and housing.  For 2015 we will be striving to enhance the skills needed to maintain that successful trajectory. We want our successful transitions to be even higher and our recidivism rates to be lower.  We launched our newsletter that will be mailed out quarterly. The newsletter contains up to date information about The Haven. The Haven will be introducing a new and improved website which will be up and running by February 2015.
We have some up-coming events for 2015.  Mark LeGreve, Jason Borden, Dan Gray, and Eric Gray, will spend 24 hours outdoors winter camping in tents at Point Beach State Forest in Two Rivers to raise awareness of homelessness. We are asking people to pledge $1/hr, $2/hr, $5/hr, or any amount to show your support. From 10 a.m. Saturday 1/31 to 10 a.m. Sunday 2/1. They will be camping in the State Forest regardless of the weather. For more info go to https://www.fundraise.com/the-haven-of-manitowoc-county-inc/winter-camping-for-the-haven
We will have our first Annual Dinner for The Haven of Manitowoc Tuesday, February 24th, 2015 at Silver Lake College Music Conservatory Atrium from 6p-9p.  George Koonce, former linebacker of the Green Bay Packers (1992-1999) will be our keynote speaker.
I am excited to see what God has in store for 2015!  A big thank you to all of you and your continued support of The Haven of Manitowoc County! Attached is our updated wish list for 2015.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!! J

The Haven Winter Camping

Nothing is crazier than homelessness in the U.S.A, except maybe winter camping during January in Wisconsin along the shores of Lake Michigan in a State Park in tents.  Some of us believe in supporting The Haven so much that we will spend 24 Hours outdoors regardless of the weather.  We are asking others to join us, challenge other, or pledge your support.  Pledges are taken through paypal, our fundraise.com page or can be mailed to:

Michael's Message 11/13/2014

Friends,

Myself and other volunteers met at Jenn's Java last night to work on the next steps for the rummage sale. Here is what we discussed:

 Shifts

We will need as many of you as possible for setting up. We will begin setting up on Weds December 3rd at 6:30pm and all day Thursday December 4th at 8:30am. We need those of you willing to help on Friday December 5th between 8am-5pm and Saturday December 6th from 8am-3pm. We will also need people willing to help with the clean up at 3pm the last day of the sale. Please let me know if you can help out on any of those days. We will plan a lunch or have lite snacks for those who participate. There will be coffee and hot chocolate available as well

 Rummage sale items

We will be meeting at The Haven from 9am-12pm this Saturday (11/15/14). We will be moving sale items from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor of The Haven, organize the items, and price them. Please let me know if you can help out on Saturday. Snacks or lunch will be served

 Item transport

We are loading everything up on Sunday November 30th starting at 10am to take to the Church. We could use your help during that time. The more people, the quicker we can get items loaded. The guests from The Haven will be helping as well.

 Raffle

Tickets will sold on the days of the Rummage/Bake sale. They will be $1.50 per ticket or 5 for $5.00. When a person wins they will be called (by phone or email) to come and collect their prize from The Haven. There will be a system in place for this. Please let me know if you have any questions.

 God Bless,

 Michael
